Chance 2 Mental Wellness and Recovery Hub Jamaica Foundation was honoured to partner with the Organization for International Development Inc. (OID) during Health Fair Week 2026, held from June 8–12 across several parishes in Jamaica. This collaborative initiative brought together healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community partners to improve access to essential healthcare services while promoting mental wellness and health education.
Integrating Mental Wellness into Community Healthcare
As part of the partnership, Chance 2 Mental Wellness and Recovery Hub Jamaica Foundation incorporated mental wellness and health education into the health fair activities. Community members received practical information on emotional well-being, stress management, self-care, and the importance of seeking professional support when needed. Educational materials containing mental wellness tips were distributed, and meaningful conversations provided encouragement and guidance to individuals and families.
Bringing Healthcare Services to Communities
The outreach began at Bird’s Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church in Clarendon, continued to Ocean View Bible Camp in St. Elizabeth, Northern Caribbean University in Manchester, and concluded at the Mt. Hannah Resource Centre in Hanover.
At each location, residents benefited from a wide range of healthcare services, including medical screenings, health education, pharmacy services with medication distribution, and dental care provided through the Mobile Dental Unit. The registration areas remained active throughout the week as community members eagerly accessed the services available.
Strengthening Mental Wellness Through Professional Support
A key highlight of the outreach was the contribution of Dr. Sharon Brown, Psychologist, who supported the mental wellness component of the programme. Her expertise reinforced the importance of integrating mental health into community healthcare initiatives and emphasized that mental wellness is an essential part of overall health.
Dedicated Healthcare Leadership
The medical and healthcare sections of the fair were vibrant and well attended. Under the leadership of Dr. Roy Streete, Head of Missions for the Organization for International Development Inc. (OID), healthcare professionals worked tirelessly to deliver quality medical care that positively impacted hundreds of community members throughout the week.
In addition to health screenings and consultations, pharmacy services ensured that many participants received essential medications. Surplus medical supplies from the outreach will continue to benefit communities beyond the health fair. A portion of these supplies was donated to Chance 2 Mental Wellness and Recovery Hub Jamaica Foundation to support future healthcare outreach in Ghana, where another registered Chance 2 Mental Wellness Foundation has been established.
